SEO, AEO and GEO: rank in Google and get cited by AI

Search has split in two: classic results and AI answers. We optimise your site so you show up in both — ranking in Google and being quoted by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews.

SEO (search engine optimization) helps your pages rank in Google and Bing. AEO (answer engine optimization) structures content so it can be lifted as a direct answer. GEO (generative engine optimization) makes your brand easy for AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity to understand, trust and cite. Growbig100 does all three together.

Why isn't classic SEO enough anymore?

More and more searches end with an AI-generated answer — in Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Copilot or Gemini — instead of ten blue links. These systems still rely on crawlable, well-structured, trustworthy web pages, but they reward slightly different things: clear direct answers, consistent facts about who you are, structured data, and mentions of your brand across the web. A site that ranks today can be invisible in AI answers if it isn't built for them.

We cover the full picture in our guide how to get your business mentioned by ChatGPT and AI Overviews.

Who is it for?

  • Businesses whose customers research online before they buy or enquire
  • B2B companies that want to appear when buyers ask AI tools for recommendations
  • Local and service businesses competing on "best", "near me" and "how to" searches
  • Sites that lost traffic to AI Overviews and need a new content approach

What's included?

Technical SEO

  • Crawlability, indexing, site architecture and internal linking
  • Page speed and Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Canonical URLs, redirects, XML sitemaps and robots.txt
  • Structured data: Organization, Service, Product, FAQPage, Article, BreadcrumbList, Person
  • Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools setup and monitoring

Answer engine optimization (AEO)

  • Research into the real questions your buyers ask
  • Question-style headings with a direct 40–60 word answer at the start of each section
  • Lists, steps and comparison tables that are easy to extract
  • FAQ sections with matching FAQPage structured data
  • Visible "last updated" dates and authorship

Generative engine optimization (GEO)

  • Consistent entity facts — name, address, founder, products — across your site and profiles
  • An llms.txt file summarising your company and key pages
  • robots.txt rules that allow AI crawlers you want to be cited by
  • Original, quotable content: definitions, data, frameworks and comparisons
  • Brand mentions and citations on relevant directories, communities and publications
  • Tracking how often AI tools mention your brand for priority questions

How does the process work?

  1. Audit. Technical crawl, content review, competitor gap analysis and an AI-visibility check across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
  2. Strategy. Priority topics and questions mapped to pages, with a 90-day plan.
  3. Fix the foundation. Technical issues, structured data and entity consistency first.
  4. Create and improve content. New answer-first pages and upgrades to existing ones.
  5. Earn mentions and measure. Digital PR and citations, plus monthly reporting on rankings, clicks, leads and AI mentions.

How do you measure AEO and GEO?

For classic SEO we track rankings, impressions, clicks and conversions in Search Console and GA4. For AI visibility we run a fixed set of buyer questions through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google regularly and record whether your brand is mentioned or linked, and which sources are cited instead. We also track referral traffic from AI tools in GA4. It's an emerging field, so we report what we can measure honestly and don't promise placements.

Example: this website

This website is built to the standard we sell: answer-first sections, structured data on every page, an llms.txt file and AI-crawler-friendly robots rules.

How is SEO, AEO and GEO priced?

Most clients start with a one-time audit and foundation fix, then a monthly retainer for content, technical improvements, mentions and reporting. The retainer is scoped by the number of pages and topics per month. We don't sell guaranteed rankings — nobody honestly can.

SEO, AEO and GEO FAQs

What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

SEO improves rankings in search results. AEO structures content so search engines and assistants can use it as a direct answer. GEO helps generative AI tools understand, trust and cite your brand. They overlap heavily — good GEO starts with good SEO.

Can you guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT answers?

No one can guarantee it. AI answers vary by question, user and model version. What we can do is make your brand clear, credible and widely referenced, which measurably increases the chances of being mentioned and cited.

Does blocking AI crawlers protect my content?

It can, but it also removes you from AI answers that rely on those crawlers. Most businesses that want to be recommended choose to allow crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. We help you decide per crawler.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file at the root of a website that summarises the organisation and links to its most important pages for AI tools. It's cheap to add and keeps your key facts in one clear place.

How long does SEO take to work?

Technical fixes can show impact within weeks. Content and authority usually take three to six months to show clear gains in competitive markets, and keep compounding after that.

Do you do local SEO?

Yes — Google Business Profile optimisation, local pages, reviews strategy and consistent business listings for businesses that serve specific areas.
